Lou’s Fall 2-Day Itinerary

  • Road in the fall time

    Day 1

    Morning:

Start with a brisk early morning walk around the Uncompahgre River Trail. Then to get breakfast, I head uptown to the Timberline Deli. In the Ouray Market I stock up on snacks for our cooler, including lots of water.

    Afternoon:

Drive over the famous Million Dollar Highway, twenty-four miles of the most majestic scenes you’ll encounter anywhere. The splendor of the Ironton Valley’s rose-gold slopes is incredible, a fall photographer’s paradise.

    Evening:

For a gourmet meal, I love the Outlaw, Ouray Cafe and Steakhouse (at Ouray Riverside Resort), or Brickhouse 737. After dinner, I like to find some live music at any one of our local restaurants or venues within walking distance.

  • Gentleman drinking Whiskey

    Day 2

    Morning:

For breakfast, I’ll go to Yankee Girl Cafe where Amy, Ouray born and raised, is always happy to see us. Take an e-bike ride around town (you can rent them in-town or ride a regular bicycle).

    Afternoon:

I enjoy a beautiful drive up Owl Creek Pass, County Road 12, into the vibrant foliage of the Cimarron Mountain Range where the aspens, pines, spruce, and cottonwoods grace slopes that rise and fall throughout the base of this range. If it’s a warm sunny day, pack a picnic for an early dinner under the Colorado blue sky. You can pick up a variety of savory meats and cheeses at Ouray Meat Market or call ahead to Kami’s Samis, and they’ll pack something up for you tailored to your taste.

    Evening:

I cap off the day with a stop at The Gray in the upstairs part of KJ Wood Distillery. Sarah Gray will greet you warmly and readily listen to all your exclamations of your wonderful two days in Ouray.
