Box Cañon Falls is one of the most captivating natural wonders I have ever seen! It's nestled deep in the heart of Colorado’s rugged San Juan Mountains, just outside the downtown area of Ouray. The Box Canon Falls should be at the top of your list of things to do in Ouray. Whether you’re an adventure seeker or a nature lover this stunning landscape will leave you in awe.

Box Canyon Falls is an impressive 285 foot waterfall that plunges dramatically into a narrow quartzite gorge. The falls are unique not only because of their beauty, but also because of the way they are set within a steep, rocky canyon. Three sides of the waterfall create a dramatic and confined space where the waterfall cascades down through the narrow gorge creating a thunderous roar and mist that you can feel as you get close.

There is a short easy walking trail that will lead you straight to the falls. This path took me 20 minutes. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous you can take a quarter of a mile hike to the foot bridge. From the bridge I saw the most spectacular view of the falls and the majestic mountains that surround the  little town of Ouray. Breathtaking!

Looking at the waterfall from the footbridge and exploring the gorge from the trail left me feeling connected to nature and inspired by the beauty of Ouray’s rugged terrain. Box Canyon Falls is a true gem!
