Tell us a little about yourself:

I'm a native of Saint Paul, MN, but have lived in Colorado since 2004 with my husband Elías, co-owner of Cirque (a Ouray-based climbing guide service.) I have also spent much of my adult life in Washington State and various foreign countries, with the longest span being in Spain, where I met my husband. In pursuit of cross-cultural encounters, my travels around the world, particularly the mountainous regions of the Himalaya and Andes, have given me a chance to acquire some knowledge of Nepali language, ethnic cooking, and high altitude mountaineering.

Tell us about your business:

I've been performing massage therapy in Ouray since 2017. Before creating ViaSana Massage & Bodywork Studio, I worked at the Wiesbaden, Beaumont, Chipeta, and Colorado Kur. ViaSana opened its doors in December 2020 at 300 8th Avenue. As a practitioner of numerous different bodywork modalities, I was ready to launch a private practice that would cater to individual demands in a very personalized way. I'm the sole therapist at my studio, so you always know you can count on the same skillset and quality of service. My offerings include: Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Ashiatsu, Thai Massage, Reflexology, CranioSacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation, SomatoEmotional Release, and Manual Lymph Drainage. Every year I pursue new training opportunities in order to bring the most effective range of techniques to my clients. I'm also unique in that I offer sessions in Spanish, which draws in families from other parts of the region.

Tell us why you chose to be in Ouray/ why you love being in Ouray:

I first came to Ouray as an ice climber back in 2005. At the time I was teaching Spanish at a boarding school in Colorado Springs, and we decided to spend our spring break here camping out in our minivan and freezing our fingers on frozen waterfalls. About a decade later, I started to winter in Ouray every year with my husband, who's been a local climbing guide ever since. After four years as seasonal residents, we committed to making Ouray our year-round home. It was in 2017 that I shifted from working in education, foreign language, and the outdoor industry to beginning a new career in massage therapy. I saw a real need for accessible holistic health care options in our city. Ouray feels like the perfect setting to provide both focused therapeutic work to community members as well as the opportunity for travelers to unwind in a serene environment, so conducive to a deep healing journey. In my personal life, I appreciate the abundance of outdoor adventures that this area offers. Depending on the season, you'll see me out on a bike, paddleboard, crampons, Nordic skis, via ferrata rungs, or alpine trails. There's no excuse to be bored in Ouray. Ever. And after a week of activity, there's nothing like a soothing hot springs soak just down the road!
